Pandit Taranath was a great legendary of his time in all walks of life. He established an institute Premayatana to propagate the importance of education in the backward region of Hydarabad Karnataka and to provide health service to poor people of the region through Ayurveda. Throughout his life he served the people of the region through various fields like health, education, literature, Art, Yoga, music, theater etc. He was a great inspiring spirit to his students hence after his sad demise; his disciples and friends started some trusts to continue the aspiration of Pandit Taranath.

Taranath Ayurveda Vidyapeet is one of such trust main created for Ayurvedic education to the students and to provide the health care for the poor patients of the region. With name of Pt.Taranath the college was started in the year 1947 few months before independence. After establishment, the college had produced many luminaries in the field of Ayurveda and served the society through Ayurveda. The name Taranath had been a synonym for Ayurveda in the region. As a private body the Taranath Ayurveda Vidyapeet struggled to maintain this college up to the aspiration of Pt. Taranath, because of financial problems, because of it serving as a charity. Many have served the college without any remuneration and donated the land and other things to maintain this college to the standard. As per the recommendations of Dr.Melkote committee,which was constituted by the Govt. of Karnataka, the collage was taken over by the Government of Karnataka to develop it to the standards of other college on 23/07/1976. Government of Karnataka took many developmental works in phased manner. In the last four years under the leadership of our Hon. Director of Ayush, Sri. G.N. Srikantaiah, various developmental activities are going on, with a big leap.

For accreditation of an institute, now,the performance of passed out the student in their respective fields is also one of the parameter. Many students of this institute after passing out with BAMS degree have established Pancha karma treatment units in various parts of Karnataka. Many of them are known for their effective services in Government sector and private sector in the field of health, medical education and research in India and abroad.

Our Post graduate course in Rasashastra is providing training to our student to do basic research in the field of Rasashatra like toxicity study, microbial study, and standardization of drugs and their preparation methods. Our students presented various papers at national and international seminars or conferences. One of such paper is awarded with gold medal. Our research works have been approved by the CCRAS, New Delhi and provided partial financial support.

The performance of our students in university examination is very good. In some year there used to be 100% results. In every batch 5 to 10 students of this institute gets seats in various Post graduate courses under Government quota.

This all is possible because of dedicated services of the efficient faculty and other staff of the college and hospital, of the time. At present we have very efficient, student’s friendly and dedicated teaching fraternity.

Our hospital is one of the famous hospitals in the reason attracting patients from all districts of Hyderabad Karnataka and boarder districts of Andra pradesh. Our hospital is known for Pancha karma treatment.This is all possible because of dedicated services of the all teaching staff, physicians, nursing and other paramedical staff of the hospital.

The college is having an active NSS unit with service oriented volunteer force. Initially the college was affiliated to Gulbarga University. Our NSS volunteers are render very effective services in the health field by conducting various health camps including eye operation camp. Our NSS unit proposed the rural surgical camp concept in the ENT field when rural people with ear problems did not know that there is a treatment for their hearing problem or the cost of the surgery was not affordable. Considering the services rendered by the NSS unit of our college our unit has been awarded as best NSS unit in the year 1993.

It is the only Government Ayurvedic College in northern part of Karnataka, situated in backward area of Hyderabad Karnataka rendering yeoman services to the region by providing medical education to poor and meritorious student of the region and health services to the people.
